Wrought vs. Forged Steel Fittings
Wrought vs. Forged Steel Fittings
(OP)
I want to specify high yield strength steel weld fittings. Can someone please explain the difference between ASTM A860 (Standard Specification for Wrought High-Strength Ferritic Steel Butt-Welding Fittings) and ASTM A694 (Standard Specification for Carbon and Alloy Steel Forgings for Pipe Flanges, Fittings, Valves, and Parts for High Pressure Transmission Service)? Aren't all steel fittings forged (heated in a furnace) and wrought (worked in to shape)?

RE: Wrought vs. Forged Steel Fittings
There are a variety of options, were they hot formed or cold formed?
Were they formed to shape or was a blank formed and then machined?
People make fittings from forged, rolled, or drawn bar, and if it is a straight fitting all is fine. but you can't make a good elbow or angle valve from bar.
It is in the details.
