2015 ICC Model Codes

2015 ICC Model Codes

2015 ICC Model Codes

So...the 2015 ICC codes will continue to reference the ASCE 7-10. What a pain in the butt if there is going to be a bunch of changes in the ASCE 7-16. Does anyone have an insight on if there are plans to better coordinating the timing of these two?

RE: 2015 ICC Model Codes

So it looks like they are slowing down the ASCE 7 (and possibly other structural codes/specs) so the ICC can merrily go their own way with their 3 year cycle.
At least that slows down changes in ASCE 7 for us.

RE: 2015 ICC Model Codes

Yeah, that looks to be that way (for now). Realistically, a majority of the model building code changes occur outside of the structural realm.

A bit unrelated - It is my opinion that the heavily prescriptive code is coveted by the ICC, but not by the individual structural organizations (ASCE, AISC, etc.). Hence, why they have such a need (desire) to overhaul every 3-years. In reading the various structural codes, I often am confused (by poor descriptions and lack of graphics), but not often do I feel that I am being stifled by prescriptive gobbledygook without language to tell me that "I can use a rationale approach to my liking...".

The more that the ICC codes only reference the structural codes, the better IMO. Then their 3-year releases won't mean much to us...
