Wind uplift on overhangs

Wind uplift on overhangs

Wind uplift on overhangs

(OP)
I've searched ASCE 7-05 and I can't find an answer to my questions regarding calculating required loads for truss hold-downs: Are the overhang roof loads from Figures 6-11B, C, and D to be added to the roof pressures or are they the only load on the total overhang (top and bottom added together). Also, if you look at the effective area for a truss overhang, would you say the effective area is just the trib width multiplied by the overhang, or would you say it's the trib width multiplied by the eave to eave length? I've always been conservative and added the two and used the least area for the overhang but I thought I would ask opinions.

RE: Wind uplift on overhangs

Look in ASCE 7-10, they have clarified the roof overhang situation in detail. Look in Figure 30.10-1 Page 355
