Double sided bolt

Double sided bolt

Double sided bolt

(OP)
Hei,

could you help me with proper English name for double sided bolts and suppliers for them. Bolt needs to have two opposite threads on each side with a hexagonal shape in the middle that can't be removed.

Or, the name of a part which has innear thread on the leaft side, threaded in left direction, and on the right side a bolt, threaded in a right direction.

Or, both sides to be with inner threads.

Maybe is a variation of a stud, but with different direction threads and with an unmovable nut in the middle.

RE: Double sided bolt

Hi

I would call it a stud even with two different threads at each end, I guess you will be providing a drawing to whoever is supplying it?

RE: Double sided bolt

i'd call this a "connector" to change a M6 male thread (so M6 female thread) into an M8 male thread, and you can change the thread pitch (though the M6 has to match, obviously). i think you'd want to have both threads rotate in the same direction, RH or LH. i think it'd be a specialised part, something you'd design and make, rather than buy.

another day in paradise, or is paradise one day closer ?

RE: Double sided bolt

We would call that an M6 X M8, XXX OA double end hex collar stud.

RE: Double sided bolt

Turnbuckle nut?

RE: Double sided bolt

That is a non-standard thing and therefore there is no standard name for it.

It will be a custom made part.

How it's made will depend on the quantities you need, and that in-turn will decide the potential manufacturers.

You will need a drawing.

Thank you all for your responses, guess i'm going to have to make it. :D

RE: Double sided bolt

I'm curious why the item from Midwest Control won't work. Looks to me like it exactly matches your description.

RE: Double sided bolt

Jboggs,

It looks like the OP wants one end to be an M6 internal thread, with the other end an M8 external thread. Midwest Control only shows regular double ended studs.

RE: Double sided bolt

use a hex bar turnbuckle with a stud

RE: Double sided bolt

(OP)
Concerning "Midwest Control" first I had a problem accessing their catalogs, then I have noticed that they only have parts with the same size of threads on each side (Adapters, Studs and Turnbuckles).

boo1, for me to use a hex bar turnbuckle with a stud I would still have to find one of them that has a different size of threads and different rotations. And I would have an unnecessary connection which will cause me a problem. They also have something called step down/up adaptors and they have different thread sizes but not directions.

3DDave, yeah, if they had sizes larger than M6 (I need M8) and a hexagonal shape not the hole, that would be it.

RE: Double sided bolt

How many do you need? When do you need them? When is your re-order date? if any.
What material?
How accurate/what kind of spec? or tolerance?

There are companies that make these to your dwg, even if not a "named" common part?

RE: Double sided bolt

I normally use the word "standoff"
