deluge system for rocket pad.
deluge system for rocket pad.
(OP)
Hello. I am installing a small deluge system to cool down a rocket motor for TRW. Can someone give me an idea of how much water I can expect (gpm) from a 6" line @ 125 psi. I am going to have four 2" outlets on the header. I know the nozzles are going to dictate the output (gpm) but I was wondering what the max gpm would be with no nozzles. Any info would be helpful, Thanks

RE: deluge system for rocket pad.
you system curve(pipe and appurtenances) is going to dictate where you pump is going to operate which in turn will dictate what pressure the nozzles will flow with (its an iterative solution). We need to know more about you system and pump (if it is a pump supplying flow) to help. A 2" nozzle at 125 psig will flow approximately 1300 gpm so 4 total will flow approximately 5,200 gpm. This is a theoritical max flow and depends on whether or not that 125 psig can be realized at the nozzle.
If you want to know whether or not 5,200 gpm in a 6-inch pipe is a good idea, calculate the velocity, I would think your answer would be no.
