v5 spline vs v4 curve2

v5 spline vs v4 curve2

v5 spline vs v4 curve2

(OP)
Long ago, in V4, to make a spline in curve2 I would pick a string of points. To smooth the spline, I would keep hitting 'yes'; every time it would reduce the degree of the curve, so that it drifted from the points and became smoother. It gave the option of selecting certain points that the curve couldn't depart from.

I have tried and tried in V5 to find this functionality, in the GSD and the freestyle work benches, but have found nothing. I just have to manually fidget with points to try to get the curve shape I want.

Does anyone know a better way to do this in V5?

RE: v5 spline vs v4 curve2

I think you're getting your V4 Spline mixed up with a V4 Arc. In V4; Splines always passed exactly through the parent points and were always degree 5. Arcs were "best fit" to the points, and their degree could vary.

Anyway; V5 curves are different. A V5 Spline still must always pass through the points. But there is a Curve Smoothing tool in GSD (INSERT + OPERATIONS + CURVE SMOOTH) that can be used to smooth out the curves.

I'm not sure about Free Style tools - might have something like a V4 Arc there.

RE: v5 spline vs v4 curve2

not commenting on v4 as it might take some time ...

FSS (freesStyle) and 3DSpline is where you want to go with the option 'near points' (or something like that).

Still V5 & V6 do not not offer all V4 possibilities... but they offer several option not available on v4....
