Internal Material Specifications

(OP)
I work for a company that build masts and substructures for the oilfield. According to API 4F, we must have written material specs that show mechanical and chemical requirements for the materials we use. We do this by using the values from the ASTM specs for the materials. An issue we have is that everytime the ASTM standard is revised we have to update our specs to reference the latest edition of the ASTM spec. Does anyone else have similar internal material standards and how do you handle this?
Thanks
