Internal, But Building-to-Building Material Transportation
Internal, But Building-to-Building Material Transportation
(OP)
Hi. We have a manufacturing plant that has multiple buildings on the same campus. We need to move skids of parts from one building to another many times during the days and we currently use forklifts, but could use other options. Does anyone know of best practices or ways of calculating the best way to move parts internally (but outdoors) within a manufacturing plant? Thanks much!

Worked at a machine shop in an aircraft mfg company. They went from moving parts on skids to specialized material handling carts designed for each part. Some are multi-use carts where applicable. Almost all part moving is by tugs rather than forklifts and the incidence of damage decreased. The carts can be connected in a train. They are loaded by work order.
