Deflection Calculation of an Aluminum Plate

Deflection Calculation of an Aluminum Plate

Deflection Calculation of an Aluminum Plate

(OP)
I am trying to calculate the deflection of 5mm thick plate made of 6061-T6 aluminium.  I would like to calculate the deflection with a center load and with distributed load.  The plate is secured along its length with several bolts on each side.  The plate is 300 mm long by 200 mm wide.  Can anyone supply me with the necessary equations?
Thanks

RE: Deflection Calculation of an Aluminum Plate

Well, for the central load max deflection = Fl^3/192EI and for a UDL max deflection = wl^4/384EI, where F = central load and w = UDL. l = width of plate. The above is just basic beam theory that assumes the edges of your plate are restrained against rotation (by bolts in your case).

RE: Deflection Calculation of an Aluminum Plate

Mark's Standard Handbook for Mechanical Engineers
Roark's Formulas fo Stress and Strain
Mechanical Engineering Design, ed. Shigley and Mischke

The above are references I use when developing FE models & verifying solutions.  All are available on Amazon.com or at most college bookstores.
