Stainless Steel Storage Tank as Crude Oil Storage

Stainless Steel Storage Tank as Crude Oil Storage

Stainless Steel Storage Tank as Crude Oil Storage

(OP)
Is that correct action to replace Stainless Steel Storage Tank which previously dedicated as Chemical Injection Storage Tank to be CRUDE OIL Storage Tank (which commonly constructed by Carbon Steel).

Is there any hazard if Stainless Steel is used to store Crude Oil? Any Reactions will occur? and what the disadvantages?

Thank you for your comment and response

Zachari Alamsyah

What are the water and Cl content of the crude?
Since you don't bother to tell us which alloy the tank is made from I would suppose that you don't know.
This could be a high risk move.

RE: Stainless Steel Storage Tank as Crude Oil Storage

Any follow-up to this a week later?

As mentioned above, stainless steels will vary vs crude depending on the condition and the alloy.

also what chemical mixture was stored, and at what temperature?

I would assume that the vent size of the SS tank may be too small.

Additionally, it is my understanding that water must be drained periodically from some tanks that store crude.

Some crude tanks are designed with bottoms that will collect water i

(See Protectoseal series 660 for an example)

I would assume that the SS tank doe not have this water drain valve commonly used in crude service....
