Open recirc line on purifier to manage temperature

Open recirc line on purifier to manage temperature

(OP)
Hi
I would like to know if I did the right thing
We have an oil purifier system with a vacuum tank
Oil was coming out of one of the RV's and after a quick check the oil temperature before going into the vacuum tank was 90C which is higher than normal.
So I opened the recirculation valve 1/2 way in an effort to reduce the temperature.
I then got called off to another job and had to hand the purifier job to another person.
It turns out that an outlet strainer was clogged and the purifier had to be shut down.
I would like to know if my initial response was correct. At a point of not knowing any other information except that temperature was high. My rational was to get the temperature stable and then have the time to check the rest of the machine out.
Thank you
