Spanner Wrench Pin Hole Sizes or shapes for 5-1/2 through 6-3/4 OD Capacity

Spanner Wrench Pin Hole Sizes or shapes for 5-1/2 through 6-3/4 OD Capacity

I can find a Hook or Pin Height for subject. I don't know if it is a hook or pin and what diameter or width it is. MSC and Grainger just don't go into that detail for these larger Spanner Wrenches. Can anyone help direct me to a website that has the dimensions and where I could purchase the Spanners? Thank You.

Google 'pin spanner dimensions'. Many hits.

I don't believe hook and pin spanner wrenches are the same things. A hook spanner engages a parallel sided radial groove in a nut/bolt, while a pin spanner engages either a pair of cylindrical holes in the axial face of a nut or bolt, or a single cylindrical radial hole in a nut/bolt.

Hook type spanner wrenches are commonly used with bearing locknuts. Take a look at the design standards for bearing locknuts to get an idea of the width/depth of the mating grooves used for various diameters of hook spanners.

Buy the spanner wrench for your diameter shaft, then measure the pins on that wrench. Add a few thousandsths for clearance to get a useable drill diameter.

My MSC catalog lists a pin dia of 3/8 inch for 4-1/2 to 6-1/4 grip range,
and 5/16 dia for 4-23/32 to 7-3/32 grip range.

There are many other styles with adjustable grip ranges and with interchangable pins.

For what it is worth - my MSC paper catalog is 2011-2012 version, sicne I usually order on line.

Pg 2270, Spanner Wrenches under Hand Tools section.
Mfg = Facom, p/n = 04570099 for the 7 inch range mentioned above

Mfg = Facom, p/n = 04569976 for an adjustable multi=pin wrench set covering 0 to 7-7/8 grip ranges, pin dia = 15/64 to 5/16
