Dear all,

ASME B 16.34 6.1.3 point d states that when a hole is drilled on the valve body necks certain considerations has to be ensured .The specification formulates some ligament dimensions. Can some one please explain me more on this .I could not figure out exactly under what special construction,the valve body neck will be drilled? What is a ligament in a valve ?

Reference Figure 2, ASME B16.34-2013, page 15.

The ligament in the valve is represented by dimensions e, f, g, f', g' and j.

Any valve body that has holes drilled parallel with the body neck axis (stem bore hole) must meet this requirement. Such valve bodies could be the butterfly valve body shown in Figure 2, 2-piece ball valve, 3-piece ball valves, top entry ball valves, gate valves, globe valves...
