Text spacing in drafting not uniform

Text spacing in drafting not uniform

Text spacing in drafting not uniform

(OP)
Hello,

We are using a modified ANXI.xml drafting standard and I'm sure this must be an option somewhere, but basically when we place a cumulate (ordinate) dimension, and then just place regular text, the spacing is not lining up. See attached .jpg for a screenshot of this. You can see the first line is the cumulate dimension with text afterward, while the last 2 lines are are just typed text. The spacing on the font and even on the numbers is not the same, even though the text size is the same, and they are both using "Swis721 BT" font (the only font our drafting standard allows).

I'm thinking this is either an internal CATIA issue, or there is a setting in the drafting standards I can change to correct this. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

RE: Text spacing in drafting not uniform

Hi Albigger,

Just trying to help!

Could it be the size of your first text is slightly larger than the other and there for it creates more spacing between the information?

I would check the annotation size and see if there is something different between both.

RE: Text spacing in drafting not uniform

Compare the text properties, chances are the spacing percentage under the font tab is different.

RE: Text spacing in drafting not uniform

your Catia admin needs to modify the settings more.

The problem is that when the catadmin set up your setting he set a custom spacing and/or ratio for the dimetion text. you need to also have your notes spacing set to the same spacing and/or ratio if you want them to be drop in notes and not modify each one.

now to fix this print.

go to the notes properties.
under the "font" tab modify the ratio and/or spacing and click apply.

you will need to do this to each note. you may be able to preselect all of them and modify the properties all at once..

good luck

RE: Text spacing in drafting not uniform

The Drafting and FT&A workbenches use the same or similar standard XML files. You can edit the files through CATIA, if you add the ADMIN command to the shortcut on your desktop. I think it's adding the line "...CNEXT ~ADMIN...". After you start CATIA, it will say "Running in Administrator Mode". Go to Tools -> Standards and locate the ANXI.XML file. I usually make a copy of the standard file so I can revert to the actual Standard.

You can also edit the actual ANXI.XML file, but that's becomes a pain.

RE: Text spacing in drafting not uniform

Changing the XML will not change the current print. Catia embeds the settings into the file. So if you change the XML you will se no difference in the print. but, you will with the next print you make.

Hi everyone - sorry I haven't responded sooner, forgot about this thread actually! Thanks for all the helpful suggestions, I am an admin but didn't know exactly where to look for this setting. Weavedreamer's suggestion was spot on - the spacing percentage was set to zero for text notes but for dimensions it was set to 20%. I found that I had to go under tools, standards, drafting, ANSI.xml and then find the font category under each type of dimension (example: length/distance dimension, default, font, spacing)

So, thanks everyone, that definitely did the trick!

Thanks Ferdo. In this case, I am the admin, and I wanted to update the entire standard so that this doesn't occur in the future. Thanks though.
