Online HVAC Courses for eventual certification

Online HVAC Courses for eventual certification

Online HVAC Courses for eventual certification

Hope everyone is having a good holiday season.

I am an Industrial Mechanic with about 20 years of experience in CNC Industrial Laser Maintenance, 30 years Electronics (Avionics to component level USAF/ANG). I believe I have all the skill sets required for HVAC/Heating (do all my own at home). I can Braze, solder, weld etc. I troubleshoot and repair everything on our chillers except the easiest part which is recovering and replacing the Freon because i lack the certification. I work in Massachusetts, I am looking for the cheapest way to get certified, preferably an online course because I work a lot.

probably a "pipe" dream, just tossing a feeler out. Not sure my company would pay for it if I can't make it cost effective.

RE: Online HVAC Courses for eventual certification

ask licensing department in your city, bring references from HVAC contractor or your company that you worked in chiller repair for a number of years, then they may let you go to a specific exam, if you pass it then you get your license, don't link between a course and a license

RE: Online HVAC Courses for eventual certification

Porter and Chester institute has a decent HVAC program in Mass. so ask those educators about the requirements needed to be certified in that field.

RE: Online HVAC Courses for eventual certification

At what do you want to be certified? Be specific.

RE: Online HVAC Courses for eventual certification

In Massachusetts you need top be certified in just about everything that involves public safety. This State has shackled anyone who wants to be innovative with laws, certifications, and taxes. At one time Massachusetts was labeled as Taxachusetts.

Basically, Our company has a bunch of Industrial CNC Lasers which I maintain completely. They each have chillers which contain freon r22 and r407C. be nice to be able to maintain them completely so we can maximize up time. There is nothing about a Chiller system that is complicated compared to what I already maintain. But I wouldn't want to create a liability issue by working on something I do not have documentation to be able to work on. Not looking to get into the HVAC buisiness, just want to be a more complete industrial mechanic.

There is one more idea as to whom you can discuss your situation. If you live nearby Springfield, MA. drop in to the HVAC department at STCC and speak to one of the educators. It seems that in your case public safety would not be an issue but could be an issue with regard to employee safety.

RE: Online HVAC Courses for eventual certification

Sounds like maybe you just need your EPA 608 certification and not any contractors licensing etc. (This is assuming you just want to add refrigerant handling to your current job) If so, try United Refrigeration or other vendors in your area. A lot of HVAC/R supply houses will put on EPA certification courses every so often.

RE: Online HVAC Courses for eventual certification

There is a company called Mainstream engineering in Florida, that do EPA certificates for Technician certification online They do 608, and 609 certificates.
You take their online courses , then an examination which, if you pass, gets you the certificate. You do have to pay for this.

You are judged not by what you know, but by what you can do.
