Sec VIII Div.2. Longitudinal Joint(Category A) can be type 3 weld???

Sec VIII Div.2. Longitudinal Joint(Category A) can be type 3 weld???

Sec VIII Div.2. Longitudinal Joint(Category A) can be type 3 weld???

(OP)
Hi to everyone.
This is my first thread so please accept my errors.

I am eager to know if my vessel has longitudinal (Category A) joint of Type 3 according to Sec VIII Div.2 table 4.2.4, I can't design as per sec 2?????? or what i consider the weld joint efficiency as per table 7.2????
Thanks

RE: Sec VIII Div.2. Longitudinal Joint(Category A) can be type 3 weld???

C8829,

I would read it that, if you have a longitudinal weld (Type A) that conforms to Joint Type 3, that it cannot be designed under the Section VIII, Division II, Part 4 "Design by Rules" rules.

It might be possible to do a design under Section VIII, Division II, Part 5 "Design by Analysis" rules, but I don't know the Code well enough to say.

Hopefully someone more expert than I can answer you.

Hi Everyone
Further detail of my problem...My vessel jacket's longitudinal jont (Category A) can be weld only type3 because its two piece(vertically split). plus my jacker sealer ring is fixed both top and bottom so i CAN NOT weld the jacket before and than slip it on inner vessel. what are the possibilities in such case to calculate the jacket shell thickness(Weld effieiency) either in sec1 or sec2.
Thanks
