Bill of Material issue

Bill of Material issue

Bill of Material issue

(OP)
Good morning,

I have a drawing with parts on multiple sheets. When I insert the BOM, I click on Table>Bill of Material, then click on the detail view on the first sheet and place the view. The problem is that I have more parts on other sheets that I need to add to the BOM. How do I add these other parts to the BOM? I am using Solidworks 2015 X64, SP1.1 on Windows 7 Professional.

Thank you,

Al

RE: Bill of Material issue

When I think BOM, I usually assume that it's attached to an assembly. Is this the case with the drawing you're working with? If so, you'll want to have a view of the assembly on your front page and derive your BOM from it.

RE: Bill of Material issue

Yes, assembly on the first sheet to attach the BOM. It will populate the detailed parts used on the other sheets.

RE: Bill of Material issue

If you do not wish to show the assembly - you can still have a view off to the side that is not actually shown on the drawing. You would point to this view for the BOM.

But won't the assembly show up in the BOM in addition to the components?

Al

RE: Bill of Material issue

No, the BOM compiles all the parts in the assembly, but doesn't include the assembly itself.

RE: Bill of Material issue

Are the parts on the other sheets in the assembly? If so, they should show up in the BOM... Possibly select the BOM and play about with the 'BOM type' options in the properties box on the left?

RE: Bill of Material issue

If you have Sub-assemblies, then you should try using the In-dented BOM, however if you selected "parts only" you will only see the parts no subs. If you have any configurations that changes how a BOM will see the parts\sub-assemblies as well.
