How to import an Output Vector from a list into FEMAP

How to import an Output Vector from a list into FEMAP

How to import an Output Vector from a list into FEMAP

(OP)
Hi guys, I’m trying to improve my workflow with FEMAP and I hope that some of you can help me.
I usually have to post-process FEMAP output vector in order to generate new data. Typical examples of this are using beam forces to calculate the maximum full Von Mises stresses in the beam cross section; or using beam or plate forces to calculate stresses in the welds of the structure.
The problem starts when having to present the results to a third party (In a technical report for example). Once the calculations are done, I end up having a really big list of stresses and elements ID. That list is later copied to the report along with some images showing the locations in the structure of the element associated with the highest stresses. In order to do that I take the ID of such elements, then make a group and Transparent highlight them also showing its labels. This process is time consuming and, also, a little confusing for the client.
I am now trying to develop an algorithm that might allow me to reintroduce the externally post processed data again into FEMAP. Then I would be able to show the results as a contour over the structure and completely avoid the need to show the elements IDs.
As far as I know, I should generate a text file that could be read by FEMAP as a new “Output Vector” associated with some set of results. Or load the list of ID and stresses into FEMAP somehow, using a Data surface or something similar perhaps. But I neither know the proper format needed to generate a text file readable by FEMAP, nor how to import the result from a list directly to FEMAP.

Any help you could provide me with will be really appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

RE: How to import an Output Vector from a list into FEMAP

Dear Nicolas,

Method 1: CSV

I attached an example of a csv results readable/attachable by Femap.
With Femap you can easily write and read a comma separated table format (CSV).
Take a look at the Femap help Chapter 8.10. Everything is clearly explained...

Method 2: Data Surface

You can also use the data surface command to create a load with your nodal/elemental results and then create an output from load to show the contour in Femap.
Look at this Linkthread where I've already explained the steps to follow to use this command.
