thread569-116968: Bi-Linear material model & resulting stresses?

I am experiencing a similar issue to what was discussed in the referenced thread. I am using Ansys Workbench 14.0 with solid geometry. I am compressing 2 opposing beams, the geometry looks similar to the hole in a needle. The beams are compressed in the middle of the span using a rigid body surface, no friction. The bi-linear material model has the following properties:
Elastic Modulus = 120GPa
Yield Strength = 500MPa
Tangent Modulus = 0
Poissons Ratio = 0.34

I have a very refined hex dominant mesh on the geometry. The compression of the beams is expected to result in significant plastic deformation of the material. I am getting maximum equivalent stresses in the range of 850MPa and maximum principal stresses around 750MPa.

Why would the predicted stresses be so much higher than the material model? Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm not sure if a tangent modulus (perfectly plastic assumption) of zero will give you trouble. This sounds like a problem with material properties. Have you tried a different tangent modulus?
