Downgrade solid element to plate element

Downgrade solid element to plate element

Hi,

Recently I get a model made of solid element from a colleague. Obviously solid element is not necessary for the analysis. Therefore, I am asked to downgrade the model to plate element. But unfortunately there is no geometry in the model. So I am wondering whether there is a quick way in FEMAP to downgrade solid element to plate element. Could anybody answer my question? Thanks in advance.

Regards..

RE: Downgrade solid element to plate element

Try the command mesh edge members- this is a way you can create a sheet on one of the faces. You would have to move those elements to the midplane and then assign the correct property and thickness.

Hi Dnadeau,

That works. Thanks for your tip.

Once you have created shell elements using the edge member command, you can use Geometry/Surface/From Mesh to make surfaces from the shells. This will allow you actually then remesh with new mesh seeds and other features.
