EDGE AND RINGWALL SETTLEMENT EVALUATION

EDGE AND RINGWALL SETTLEMENT EVALUATION

EDGE AND RINGWALL SETTLEMENT EVALUATION

(OP)
Dear All,

Just want to clear something. Why does the evaluation of edge settlement is separated from the evaluation of ring wall foundation?
Assume we have a foundation ring settles and so was the edge of the bottom plate(which also affects the shell),what criteria for evaluation will govern? If the edge settlement is within tolerance but the ring wall foundation exceeds the limit as per the code,or vise versa, whats the best action to address the issue?
My point is,Is it not that if a ring wall settles, the edge will follow, and should have a single criteria of evaluation for both modes of failure?
Please shed some light.

Best regards

b.lawn
