Stormwater Management Book Suggestions

Looking for suggestions for a good book/manual related to hydrology, hydraulics, pond design, stormwater management. If it involves cold weather scenarios, that would make it more pertinent. I have a solid grasp of the basic concepts, but i would like to take my knowledge of these fields to the next level. Thanks.

My favorite textbook for this stuff is this:

To get much past that, you really need to learn on the job.

Hydrology, Drainage Analysis, Flood Studies, and Complex Stormwater Litigation for Atlanta and the South East - http://www.campbellcivil.com

RE: Stormwater Management Book Suggestions

Open Channel Hydraulics by Ven Te Chow is a classic and great to just have.

Stormwater Conveyance Modeling and Design by Haestad and Durrans is another great on eif you can find it.

But as beej67 said, OJT is really where you'll get the knack for this stuff.

RE: Stormwater Management Book Suggestions

Stormwater pond design is a topic you will never find a good treatment of in any literature, because the requisite processes, procedures, and calculations vary dramatically by region, and are always in flux. I could write a 300 page textbook outlining the methods and differences between them just for the states bordering the Gulf of Mexico, and it would be completely outdated in ten years.

A couple of my likes:

1. Open Channel Hydraulics by Ven Te Chow, as suggested by Twinkie
2. Handbooks of Hydraulics by Brater and King
3. Hydrology for Engineers by Linsley, Kohler, Paulhus

Thanks for the responses. I will take a closer look at the suggested books.

This points to perhaps the best literature -> the regulatory code and hopefully stormwater manual for the jurisdiction of the design.

RE: Stormwater Management Book Suggestions

Seriously, your State's BMP manual(s) should be on your desk as well.... TR-55 is another must have.

I agree with all the posts here. Thanks again everyone.

The book I use as reference is a 2003 stormwater design book from Haestad. Likely the one Twinkie mentioned.

The book by McCuen may be what i am looking for - a book specifically for engineers.

RE: Stormwater Management Book Suggestions

I'm a fan of Sturm's Open Channel Hydraulics, but I'm biased because he was my grad school adviser and that's the book I both learned, and later taught, out of. It has a lot of overlap with Chow.

RE: Stormwater Management Book Suggestions

These are my recommendations. I hope this helps.

STORM WATER MANAGEMENT BOOK

Title: Stormwater Management
Author: Martin P. Wanielista | Yousef A. Yousef

POND DESIGN BOOK

Title: The Master Book of the Water Garden
Author: Phillip Swindells

HYDRAULICS BOOK

Title: Hydraulic Engineering
Author: John A. Roberson

HYDROLOGY BOOK

Title: Water from Heaven
Author: Robert Kandel

I am not associated with any of the authors in any way or promote their books in exchange of money. I just thought it could be of valuable help for you. I don't say that they're the best. But you try to research about them one by one and read some reviews or book summary of what topics it cover. Then you just have to come up with some clever judgment and deduct if that can help you widen your horizon in your chosen field. So, I'll leave it there.
