How to input grate opening

How to input grate opening

(OP)
I have a parking lot that drains into a ditch and a catchbasin will be installed in the bottom of the ditch to collect the runoff. How do I input the grate openings at the top of the catchbasin? I assume I will select horizontal plane. Do I need just enter the width and length of the openings and then enter the number of openings in the discharge multiplier?

RE: How to input grate opening

I gather this is a HydroCAD question: Yes, you would normally set the size of each opening and then enter the number of openings. HydroCAD will automatically use weir flow at low heads and orifice flow at high heads.

You also have the option to enter the overall grate dimensions in order to check for perimeter weir flow.

If you click the Help button on the orifice screen it will provide complete details...
