NX9 Customer Defaults not always working?

NX9 Customer Defaults not always working?

NX9 Customer Defaults not always working?

(OP)
Wow I find myself asking more and more questions these days. lol

In Customer Defaults, in the "Defaults Level" drop down, we have three choices. "Site", "Group", & "User". In all three levels, I have gone to Gateway - Part Navigator and changed the Sort Method to "Alphanumeric". We have even locked this setting (as we have found sometimes the setting doesnt take unless we lock them).

However, we are still creating files that the Nevigator tree is sorted Chronological (which nobody likes).

Does anyone else have problems getting their Customer Defaults to take hold?

RE: NX9 Customer Defaults not always working?

What are you trying to set? The default you're referring to is to control the order of model views in the part navigator. The possible options are alphabetic, alphanumeric or default. No option for chronological.

If can't find an option to control the default for the assembly navigator which is what I think you want.

I forgot to mention I am in NX9. That might be why you dont have that setting. Attached is a picture of it after I changed the setting in my File to Alphanumeric. For some reason no matter how we set it in the defaults, when we create a new file, it comes out in Chronological still.

RE: NX9 Customer Defaults not always working?

PhoeNX is correct, the customer default that you mention does NOT control the assembly navigator but rather the list of views, PMI, and other objects in the part navigator (but not the model history).

It is my understanding that a customer default to control the display of the assembly navigator will be in NX 10. You may find the following thread of interest (the first few posts don't really apply to your question, but keep reading...)

Thanks.

When I found the option to set it in the Customer Defaults (shown in attachment), I took it that this setting should set the order it comes up in the tree. But it looks like we will just have to change it manually once and save it that way. At least until NX10 comes out.

NX offers multiple levels of control for the settings. It will first read the "site" settings, then the "group" settings, and finally the "user" settings. If the setting is locked at the site or group level, this is the value that will be used; if it is unlocked, this means the user can specify what value they want to use (the "user" setting overrides the site or group setting). By locking the setting, you leave the user no choice.

You may want to lock certain options at the group or site level to maintain consistency (such as drafting preferences). I'd suggest locking only the settings that are necessary.
