welding pass is essential variable

(OP)
Hello,

i have qualified wps of thickness range 16-50mm with multipule pass. actual pqr on thickness 25mm with impact test , single v groove, i have required 9 pass to fill 25mm thickness, so according to wps thickness range i have to weld 40mm thick but it may required 15 passes .
so increase in number of weld pass with same wps is an essential variable as per asme sec ix and where it is mention in asme plz suggest.

RE: welding pass is essential variable

For WPS qualification requiring impact testing, you re-qualify the WPS based on a weld deposit thickness greater than 1/2" (13mm) per pass or a filler metal diameter change greater than 1/4" (6 mm), and not the number of weld passes. See QW-253 for SMAW procedure qualification.

RE: welding pass is essential variable

40 mm thickness requires 15 passes?

RE: welding pass is essential variable

The number of passes is not an essential variable, supplementary essential variable or nonessential variable (other than single or multiple passes). See metengr re pass thickness requirements & electrode diameter.

RE: welding pass is essential variable

Please posit the question(s?) again in full sentences.

"If you don't have time to do the job right the first time, when are you going to find time to repair it?"
