using Datums in a sketch NX 9.0
using Datums in a sketch NX 9.0
(OP)
Is there a trick to using datums in a sketch?
I'm trying to add dims from a line in a sketch to a datum and I can not pick the datum.

It is a pull down that is best set at No Selection Filter but in your case it is probably set at solid body or curve

I had to create a line, constrain it to the datum, then dimension to it, only way it would work in that sketch for me.
RE: using Datums in a sketch NX 9.0
Which datum are you speaking about ? Datum plane or Datum Axis ?
The Absolut/WCS or the intermediate sketch Csys ?
(did you try to pick it first, I also experienced this)

We can repeat this problem.

That is the way I found it to work.

'Horizontal' and 'Vertical' dimensions are like 'Point-to-Point', in that they only allow you to select Points and/or Curves since in those instances the 'points' are what's being dimensioned, whereas in the case of 'Perpendicular' (for the first pick) and 'Angle' dimensions, a Datum can be selected since it's being used to define a line/plane-of-reference. You can sort of prove that by using the 'Inferred' method and selecting a Datum. In those cases, the only dimension types being created will be 'Angle' or 'Perpendicular' whereas if you had selected only lines you might have also gotten an occasional 'Horizontal', 'Vertical' or 'Point-to-Point' dimension. You can verify the type of dimension created by going back and editing that dimension and checking the 'Method' indicated if it's a Linear Dimension or the dialog itself, if it's an Angular dimension.
