Building volume on a lightweightbody

Building volume on a lightweightbody

Building volume on a lightweightbody

(OP)
Hi all,

Some weeks ago, I experienced for the first time with this software and with your help, I managed to build a 'plastic cap' on top of a skull of a human (see in the screenshot in attachment). Now I want to do exactly the same but with a leightweight body that show a rodent.

This rodent scalp is extracted from a patch-file of Matlab that I converted to an STL-file with the Matlabscript stltowrite and inported in a model in Siemens NX. Now I have my scalp and want to build the cap volume on it.

But how do you do that? I tried to do it by making a sketch on the top of the ligtweight body but that's not possible? Someone has a solution to help me out?

I am now more aware of the true nature of this leightweight body, it is a facet body. Is there a way to make a surface that lays on top of this facet body where I can work further with to make the cap? Is there a way to convert it somehow to a solid body?

I searched on other topics in this forum, but can't find a real solution or alternative.

Attached video shows how to use Rapid Surfacing in NX9.
You may or may not have a license.
If you don't, then you'll need to cut sections through the faceted model to then surface.

If you're running NX 9.0 you can also use the 'Rough Offset' function to create a Sheet Body from a faceted model by setting the offset value to '0' and adjusting the Deviation and Stepover values to control the amount of detail in the resulting surface.
