Mobility scooter motor problem?

Mobility scooter motor problem?

Mobility scooter motor problem?

(OP)
Hello.
Has anyone seen this before please?
Have Rascal scooter ( four wheel, 50 amp batteries ) with original Phisiang motor having two #43 brushes.

One brush fails after short period, always the same side of the motor. The other brush is fine.

It appears that the brush spring is failing, either breaking, or remaining intact but losing all tension.

Could this be an overheating or overcharging problem in the outer coil on that side?

Thank you Pete.

RE: Mobility scooter motor problem?

That usually happens wen the "litz" (the connection between brush and supply) is bad. Current then heats the spring. No good. Check contact resistance where the litz is connected. Clean and tighten.

Half full - Half empty? I don't mind. It's what in it that counts.

Hello Skogsgurra.
Very many thanks for your help and the confirmation. I suspected that it might be something of this sort.
All the joints appear to have been heavily soldered and I do not have the test gear to go further myself.
Looks like I will have to " bite the bullet " and take it somewhere to be fixed.
Many thanks again Pete.

RE: Mobility scooter motor problem?

Hi Peteltt33,
Just check whether the brush assembly of the trouble side has become loose ? On ships I used to face this problem sometimes. ( I mean in the 70's when there were good number of d.c.motors)!

RE: Mobility scooter motor problem?

Look for a loose and or corroded connection, dirt or corrosion inside the brush holder, possibly the brush holder bent or moved out of position or allignment.
