Do pipe mills that manufacter standard carbon steel pipe, spray the pipe with a lacquer coating before shipping?

RE: Lacquer coating on new pipe?

Only if you ask them to.

Also: There's usually a good reason why everyone does it that way

RE: Lacquer coating on new pipe?

Shonuff,

Maybe it's different for different industries, but in the chemical industry, i've never asked for the coating (is it lacquer or enamel?) and have always gotten it.

RE: Lacquer coating on new pipe?

We normally buy from pipe warehouse suppliers. Some of the pipe comes with lacquer - some don't.

RE: Lacquer coating on new pipe?

If it's destined to be"stock" pipe then it's more likely to be coated with some sort of preservative, but large quantities sold to the user probably not unless it's part of the spec.
