Name and function of this valve/fitting?

RE: Name and function of this valve/fitting?

Interesting

Elbow connection??

My guess for use on the fire truck to clear some obstruction?

RE: Name and function of this valve/fitting?

That's what we thought, but nope. It was in a fixed installation.

RE: Name and function of this valve/fitting?

Is it wide open on the inside ?

An elbow not-quite-rightly tapped for a DP flowmeter?

Was it on a standpipe ?

RE: Name and function of this valve/fitting?

Looks like an elbow used by a fire department in the old days.

It was on a standpipe. I think the inside was empty, but looked like something may have belonged in there. Not sure about a flow meter, that looks like a lot of pressure loss for nothing. And look how the elbows are offset...not a 90, but a jog.

RE: Name and function of this valve/fitting?

Ok was it on an outlet in a stairwell or somewhere else in the system???

Looks like it had clappers inside

RE: Name and function of this valve/fitting?

OK not an elbow but an offset with two inside clappers to be used by the local fire department.

RE: Name and function of this valve/fitting?

Its an automatic drain valve.
to protect fire hose from valve
leakage.

How did you come up with that one????

Traveler has not said what part of the standpipe system
it was found in

Mark

Very good

Love this industry you learn and see new things all the time

RE: Name and function of this valve/fitting?

Or sometimes you see old things, not used anymore, for the first time. I have been at this for 37 years and don't recall seeing anything like that. I personally owned a 1952 Central Fire Truck with all the devices, and nope that was not one of the accessories.
