Connect Cylinder Piston to Planetary gearmotor

Connect Cylinder Piston to Planetary gearmotor

First of all I would like to thank all helper. I am designing an automatic shotgun cleaner for personal usage. I am going to do a cylinder which will be tipped with a brush, connected to a cylinder piston to make front and back movement and then i am going to connect a planetary gear motor. So that the movement will be rotating and moving in and out of the barrel. My problem is that I don't know how to connect the piston with motor. Any help please.

Many Thanks,
acikkies

RE: Connect Cylinder Piston to Planetary gearmotor

Look on-line for railroad steam engines as well. There, oscillating piston motion is translated into rotary wheel motion.

Have heard about radial engines on propeller airplanes? May be a similar design can be developed to fit your need.

Good idea's, but I was thinking something simpler, another idea i was thinking about was that the piston will be connected to the motor, which will be placed onto lubricated sliders (such as rain rails), when eventually will do both movements, the piston is going to move out aroud 0.6m (60cm). Do you think its a bad idea ? Once again thanks

RE: Connect Cylinder Piston to Planetary gearmotor

It will likely be quite difficult to get sufficient linear travel to brush a shotgun barrel end-to-end with the device you describe. Frankly, it seems like a rather complicated approach for simply running a cleaning brush back-and-forth through your shotgun barrel a couple times.
