Importing geometry in Ansys

Importing geometry in Ansys

Importing geometry in Ansys

(OP)
I just installed Ansys Workbench, and my first impression is that the modelling tools are completely terrible.

I am wondering if anyone has any experience importing geometry from other sources, and what programs you use for modelling.

It appears to me that Ansys can't import .IFC files, which I think is pretty stupid since it's such a common file format.

RE: Importing geometry in Ansys

I use solid works or AutoCAD inventor. I believe that those software packages interface with workbench due to a paid for plugin. If you do not want to pay for the plugin, Ansys will import universal graphics files such as .iges or .igs (I forget the extension) and step files .stp for free.

RE: Importing geometry in Ansys

While DesignModeler can be judged to be a little complicated compared to modern Cad-systems, it does what it's supposed to in most cases. Nevertheless, we have exchanged our DesignModeler licenses for Ansys SpaceClaim licenses. Best investment ever for us, easy to use, handles most cad-formats without problems. The model-preparation features and clean-up features are excellent. It is really easy to design your own geometries as well.
