Mechanical Shaft Ventilation Requirements

Mechanical Shaft Ventilation Requirements

Mechanical Shaft Ventilation Requirements

(OP)
Where in the ICC or NFPA does it talk about ventilating mechanical shafts? Does this only apply to high rise buildings because of stack effect? I know about specific ventilation requirements for elevator shafts, but not mechanical shafts.

RE: Mechanical Shaft Ventilation Requirements

What did you mean by mechanical shaft

RE: Mechanical Shaft Ventilation Requirements

(OP)
A mechanical shaft filled with ductwork, plumbing and mechanical water pipes.

RE: Mechanical Shaft Ventilation Requirements

No ventilating requirements. Wherever the ducts penetrate the 2-hour wall to the occupied spaces, a fire/smoke damper might be required (US) and a duct smoke within 5' of said device.
