Corrosion below ring groove

Corrosion below ring groove

Corrosion below ring groove

(OP)
Hi all,

Please refer to photograph and advise me how we can mitigate the risk of corrosion on area a just below the ring groove. Material specification is as follows:

Flange AISI 4130
Ring grove cladding: Inconel 625
Ring Gasket: SS316
Standard: API 6A

Note: Area corroded highlighted in green on the attached photograph.

RE: Corrosion below ring groove

I assume that the 625 alloy is corroding. If so, you need to upgrade the alloy; e.g., 622, 686, etc.

RE: Corrosion below ring groove

Clad the entire face with 625? It looks like something is gathering in the flange gap and eating the flange material? Bit difficult to see. A sideways view or draw a section through the rather mighty looking flange

My motto: Learn something new every day

Also: There's usually a good reason why everyone does it that way
