mechanical lift/extend

mechanical lift/extend

(OP)
Hi all,

Mining engineer here. I trying to devise a system to lift a weight of approximately 10kg up a height of 1.4m (total vertical travel) and in and out approximately 30cm. I'd like to mount the system on the side of a vehicle, so minimal power draw and as lightweight as possible.

Any ideas the best place to start? I was thinking an electric motor running a chain that can raise and lower the weight mounted on a couple of sliders. For the in and out I was thinking pulleys or a gear that runs a long flat gear (I'm unsure of the names) - however I'm not sure if I can do this from the same motor, or if I need a separate one attached to the elevating platform. Then of course I have to keep any electrical wires in place whilst it raises and lowers.

Does anyone know if anything like this exists or am I going to have to start from scratch?

Thanks

John

RE: mechanical lift/extend

While I don't know of any existing device that would meet your exact needs, there are probably hundreds of ways you can combine off-the-shelf components to perform this task. Besides the basic electromechanical drive, you will need some form of control/feedback for your device.

RE: mechanical lift/extend

How accurate and how controlled to you need to be?

(Are you lifting a trash can filled with rocks to dump it? Or a antique clock to place into a glass display case filled with other antiques? (Slightly exaggerating there.) )

RE: mechanical lift/extend

Would you explain "...and in and out approximately 30cm..." another word is this movement an horizontal one, a rotating type or other types?

RE: mechanical lift/extend

Electric winch, and garage door guides and rollers. Make a frame to mount the guides, attach rollers to the weight, attach winch cable to the weight (pass the cable over a pulley at the top of your frame.)

Sorry guys - fell off the radar.
Doesn't need to be very delicate - it's just for moving rotating brushes up and down a post - the post has a bit of flex in it.

And as for the movement - I'd like 1.4m vertical, and 300mm in and out/horizontal (it will be mounted on the side of a car, so away from the car and towards the car).

Thanks
