We have a remote I/O card located in an mcc room taking a temperature input. this then links to a fibre optic patch panel also located in the mcc room. this then links to a fibre optic patch panel in an equipment room and this links to the DCS. My question is what is the purpose of using the patch panels and fibre optic cable?

thanks

RE: fibre optics

Distance and/or electrical isolation are the usual reasons for using fibre.
