Circular RC Tank Design Aids & References

Circular RC Tank Design Aids & References

Circular RC Tank Design Aids & References

(OP)
Hi All,

I'm currently researching the requirements for circular reinforced concrete tank design in Australia (say >15m diameter). I have read some articles which list 'Circular Concrete Tanks Without Prestressing' published by Portland Cement Association 1993 as a reference. From what I can tell, this reference is written for use with imperial units. What references are Australian designers (or other countries that use SI units) using for their design charts etc? Are you converting between units in the publication mentioned above or is there a similar reference you have found?

I would also appreciate hearing of about any publications that deal with the design of these structures using a grillage or plate analysis.

Appreciate any advice on the above.

Regards Jake

I assume you have this as the first port of call?

Hi Trenno,

Yes I have a copy of AS3735-2001. I have experience designing liquid retaining structures such as bunded floor slabs but have not undertaken tank design specifically. I thought there might be a 'bible' so to speak of (similar to how "Design of Portal Frame Buildings" is the defacto standard for portal frame building design in Australia).
