Elastic lateral torsional buckling of bridge girder during lifting
Elastic lateral torsional buckling of bridge girder during lifting
(OP)
I checked the stresses for the lifting of a steel girder (see attached) and FCR was overpassed by double; according to AASHTO LRFD I was allowed 20 MPa and the actual girder flange stresses are 43 MPa. The L/b of the girder is 79, which is marginal. The girder was put in place and the bridge was fit up. If the buckling was elastic, and Fy was not reached, does that mean that I don't have to worry about the safety of my girder?

The greatest trick that bond stress ever pulled was convincing the world it didn't exist.
