Solidworks Toolbox Issue

Solidworks Toolbox Issue

Solidworks Toolbox Issue

(OP)
Hi,

This is in line with the "thread559-309197: Toolbox copied parts regressing during upgrade to 2011.".

I understand whatever has meen discussed over there regarding the issue of Solidworks Toolbox.

I used to face the same issue and we couldn't figure out the reason still.

I have added fasteners to my assembly from toolbox by "create new part" and I used to save each fasteners in the same folder where I have my assembly files and with customized name and the assembly looks fine. But When I open the same assembly the next day it again takes the toolbox link and the fasteners are LOOKING BIG IN SIZE.

We have tried unchecking the default location for fasteners in options but it didn't work as expected. We used to have this issue sometimes when we open the assebmly file in different user also. And also we never upgraded from one version to another. We always uninstall the old version completly and install the new version.

I don't know whats wrong with Solidworks in this regard.

RE: Solidworks Toolbox Issue

I gave up on Toolbox years ago. I get all my fastener models from McMaster-Carr.

I gave it up too long time ago due to its weak robustness. Solidworks needs to revolutionize the Toolbox.

RE: Solidworks Toolbox Issue

I work in a multiple user office with a single common server folder for all Toolbox fasteners, and it works fine. All users draw from and contribute to that folder. When a toolbox fastener is placed in an assembly, it first looks in that folder to see if the discrete part file exists. If not, it creates one. We assign a unique "part number" which is really just a description such as "1/4-20 x 2.5 SHCS" and save it. Next time that fastener is needed it usually comes up fine, no problem.

I gave up on the toolbox a very long time ago. It did not play well back then with multiple users, and it did not conform to our in-house BOM format.

I had a horrible time recently when I inherited a very large assembly with sorts of McMaster Carr files complete with threads modeled as helices. If I had it all to do over again, all the screws would be based on the same model, and I would be able to swap files within the assembly.

RE: Solidworks Toolbox Issue

Where I currently work, we don't have an abundance of fasteners so the fact that they have their threads doesn't adversely affect load/rebuild/refresh times. If they were causing issues, I would just suppress the features and move on.

Whenever I download from McM-C, I make a config to suppress the thds.

I don't know why Solid Works not considering this issue. Instead of making the software robust they are only interested in developing new features. There are so many customers who don't believe in this software because of these kind of issues. I have been facing this from quite a long time and I couldn't find a solution even from VAR.

RE: Solidworks Toolbox Issue

Eh, Toolbox wasn't developed by SolidWorks they just bought the company. Believe me, it's waaaay better than it used to be.

RE: Solidworks Toolbox Issue

They should buy logopress123Go its their version of Toolbox. If you have never seen it check that out. Its a lot like TB, but its waaaaaay easier to use and has all the perks we would like to see in TB. http://www.logopress3.com/en/products-6.php there is a free version and an advanced version that's not free.

RE: Solidworks Toolbox Issue

Huh - Jeff - your post from up above - As an old-school SolidWorks user I gave up on toolbox years ago, as well. To others, should I make a point of learning it, now that it's better?

Dears,

Before also I decided not to use toolbox. One time later I used it and when the trouble again happened, I went to Twitter and wrote this post:
