hi. i am designing two floor steel factory. At mezanine floor using composite beam with 8 cm concrete. And planing to put energy panels at roof. i have several questions.

1. Roof has a %2 slope. starts with 7.5 meters and finishes at 8.00 meter. How can we use rigid diaphragm? ETABS warning is you cant create rigid diaphragm at different levels.
2. Can we use foamed-concrete over metal-deck? In turkey there is foamed concrete with 1 MPa strength and 400kg/m3 density. I think it is strength enough to make a rigid diaphragm. I am wondering is there any construction abroad using this material over metal-deck. I searched from internet, generally there is lightweight concrete with 1600 kg/m3 density and high strength.

RE: foamed-concrete

In fact you can, you just have to define a story at 7.50 m height and another one at 8m, place the slab and just add it to a diaphragm.

Yes you can place concrete on top of a metal deck, just go to the define frame sections options and define a metal deck according to your specs. Metal deck alone is allowed by the ASCE in low rise buildings to be modeled as a Rigid diaphragm assuming it complies with the certain limitations (Chapter 26- General wind loading).

But when i modeled the roof with composite beam with concrete after composite beam analysis; at composite beam design menu i am looking to the reports and it says my cover N/A, dont see my metal deck options there. I think because of the roof's %2 slope program dont realize it as a composite beam or i am doing something wrong. And when i add a slab from 7.5 height to 8; ETABS warning is can create rigid diaphragm at different Z levels. Then i defined rigid diaphragm from shell objects and i think problem solved.
