Reverse Acting RD

Reverse Acting RD

Reverse Acting RD

(OP)
Dear all

When we must use Rupture Disc type Reverse acting? Is this type can withstand higher pressure instead of Direct Acting? More hazardous chemical? What the advantages and disadvantages of this type?

Highly appreciate for your response and answer

Best Regards
Zachari Alamsyah

RE: Reverse Acting RD

Reverse Acting is the most common type, in my experience. They have a narrower tolerance range for their ACTUAL bursting pressure versus the SPECIFIED pressure. Reverse Acting are actually for moderate pressures, and Direct are for higher pressures. Personally, I specify/buy Reverse *if* one is available for the diameter and pressure needed. For high pressures, you are stuck with Direct and a broader tolerance range.

But in one reference (http://www.bsbsystems.com/Rupture_Disks/rupture_di...), stated that Reverse acting is more reliable than forward acting. And also stated the conventional RD is direct acting.

Nowadays Rupture Disc type reverse acting become common use replace the direct acting because its versatility.

RE: Reverse Acting RD

"more reliable" = less uncertainty [inherent tolerance] as to the actual bursting pressure versus the specified bursting pressure. "They work better"
