Slab Recommendations

Slab Recommendations

(OP)
Designing a 50x100 wood framed, one story, slab-on-grade furniture store. The slab will be floating (i.e. not restrained by the foundation walls).
The owner will not be using a forklift or installing storage racks. Would it make sense to use anything more than a 4" slab?
I was going to propose 4" with 6x6 W2.0 wire and control joints around 16'-8" o/c.
Also, does anyone have any standard thickness and reinf. info for a dumpster pad?

Thanks

RE: Slab Recommendations

A lot of the retail centers I have done I have used a 4" concrete slab with fibermesh reinforcing, unless the store's prototype calls for something different. I also place the control joints around 12' for a 4" slab. Something to keep in mind also is that firbermesh should not be used if the concrete is to be polished as the fibers would prevent it.

Thanks Steven.
I typically don't spec fibermesh as I don't feel that it does anything. Rebar or properly placed WWM seem to do better.

RE: Slab Recommendations

without knowing what the soil conditions are, how can you possibly design the slab?
