Curious problem with Circular Flat Patterns (NX8.5)
Curious problem with Circular Flat Patterns (NX8.5)
(OP)
Hello,
We've found in NX8.5 all CIRCULAR flat patterns in Sheet Metal are "appearing" blank when loaded in TCVis. Changing the view in Vis to Top and then back to Default shows the flat pattern, but what's causing this?
If you
- create a circular Tab on the absolute X-Y plane (doesn't matter where the centre point is located)
- create the flat pattern in same location
(no need to select move to absolute csys, as it's modelled there already)
- export the flat pattern and load it in Vis, it appears blank
This only affects circular flat patterns. If you repeat the above with say, an ellipse instead, the flat pattern is fine. Here's the final piece of the puzzle...
If you
- create any shape tab on absolute X-Y
- create the flat pattern (don't select move to absolute)
- EDIT the sketch for the tab, and change it to a circle
you get an error in the flat pattern about referencing an X direction, but it shouldn't need to as it's on absolute anyway.
The problem is that for all circular parts, we'd model them on absolute X-Y in order to create the flat pattern in the same location, because you can't use "move to absolute" for a circular part. But now in 8.5 they are "seeming" to be blank and confusing people.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

You're right we did speak about selecting something for moving circular flat patterns onto absolutes.
And I also thought I'd try that this morning for an x-ref in this particular situation.
But in NX8.5, the only available selection type is "edge" when you are using the move.
Seems to be the same in my remaining native version of 7.5 too, so I'm not sure how we did it before.
In any case, I've raised this with GTAC.
