AISC Steel Construction Manual - 14th Edition - Digital Copy

AISC Steel Construction Manual - 14th Edition - Digital Copy

I wasn't sure where to post this question, but has anyone purchased the digital edition of the 14th edition steel construction manual?

For those of you who have purchased it, does the document have chapter links and bookmarks embedded in the pdf?
To me, these are essential for digital documents. If I have to page through the entire pdf manually, I probably won't purchase it.
There are no sample pages or chapters to get a sense of the quality of the digital manual.

Basically I'm trying to figure out whether or not it is worth the cost. I already have the hardcopy but wouldn't mind purchasing the pdf.

Thanks TME. I'm interested in this too. It's searchable, right? That's the key feature for me.

The greatest trick that bond stress ever pulled was convincing the world it didn't exist.

Thanks a lot for the screenshot and info.
I prefer pdf copies for all of my codes if possible. It's easier for me to open the pdf for reference on my second monitor while I'm doing work on my main monitor.
You don't find the pdf version very useful or just prefer hardcopy version?

RE: AISC Steel Construction Manual - 14th Edition - Digital Copy

Yes, it is searchable. That's mostly what I use it for.

The PDF file is large so jumping from one page to another takes a second or two, I find it much easier to have the hardcopy open in front of me.

That said, the PDF is great for being able to take it with me just by bringing my laptop. Very useful on job sites. For something like the AASHTO Bridge Design specification I love the PDF as it's searchable. I might pick up the ACI 318 as a PDF for that reason as well.

RE: AISC Steel Construction Manual - 14th Edition - Digital Copy

The "pdf" will not open with typical pdf software. It requires an e-reader such as Adobe Digital Addition. In addition to having the complete table of contents with all sub-section, there is another tab where one can add there own bookmarks separate from those that come with it. I like it but I have not been able to highlight or add notes.

RE: AISC Steel Construction Manual - 14th Edition - Digital Copy

Hi
I had two questions:
1. Is the 14th edition the latest edition and what is the latest print?
2. Would it be a good idea to purchase the hard copy and the digital together?
Thanks

RE: AISC Steel Construction Manual - 14th Edition - Digital Copy

1. Yes it's the latest. Not sure on the printing, the AISC website should have that info.
2. Depends on what you want to do with them. For our office we have 1 hard copy and 1 digital edition of the 14th manual, this is mainly because we wanted a digital steel book manual and we always want a hard copy of our texts. For most people one or the other is sufficient, I personally prefer hard copies.

RE: AISC Steel Construction Manual - 14th Edition - Digital Copy

most of these digital additions have a copyright agreement that states it can be on one computer only, and not accessible through a network. I do not own AISC pdf's like this, but others we have had from NDS and such have that clause, so our IT doesn't let us have them on the network drives. Its a pain.

RE: AISC Steel Construction Manual - 14th Edition - Digital Copy

AISC digital editions allow it to be on two computers per license. And, yes, this is a huge pain.
