5000 PSI Concrete Availability

5000 PSI Concrete Availability

5000 PSI Concrete Availability

(OP)
I work for a company that is based in the U.S., but we do work all over the globe. We have some standard designs that we use, and one of the new compatibility requirements is the use of 5000 psi concrete. My question is what kind of availability do you think is out there for this strength concrete?

RE: 5000 PSI Concrete Availability

No problem in my market (Western Canada).

1) It's a very common range for precast and multi story story columns.
2) With the high early strength mixes a lot of contractors order, it's hard not to end up with that much anyhow.

The greatest trick that bond stress ever pulled was convincing the world it didn't exist.

RE: 5000 PSI Concrete Availability

Converted to metric, that is a normal structural grade in Australia, about 35 MPa. Up to 65, 80, 100 Mpa are available, but not in some remote areas.

RE: 5000 PSI Concrete Availability

I think it would be fairly commonplace in most developed and developing countries.

We did some work in the Solomon Islands and it was specified and used.

RE: 5000 PSI Concrete Availability

I was told by an engineer from the Philippines that when he got to Canada and saw the concrete strengths we use for design (20-35 MPa for regular stuff) he was floored. Back home they never designed for concrete that strong as most was site mixed by hand.
