Comparison between EI guidelines and IEC 60534-8-3 Sound Power Level

Comparison between EI guidelines and IEC 60534-8-3 Sound Power Level

Comparison between EI guidelines and IEC 60534-8-3 Sound Power Level

(OP)
Good morning everybody,

I am trying to understand high frequency acoustically induced vibration of a pipework downstream a source of noise (valve/orifice).

I noticed that the Energy Institute (EI) guidelines set the "failure"" limit sound power level (SPL) to 155 dB. If the SPL is over this value then further assessment must be carried out to reduce the SPL.

However, it looks like there are more than one methods to calculate the SPL.

- the EI guidelines which use a formula from the Carucci and Mueller paper
- the IEC 60534-8-3 which use a different procedure

My problem is that using the 2 methods above I obtain 2 different SPL. It looks like the EI guidelines are much more conservative.

As I cannot find any paper about the formula used by the EI it is difficult to understand what are the differences between this two methods.

Is the IEC method appropriate for this type of study?
