API 2030

API 2030

(OP)
Dear All,

I will like a clarification on the issue below.

In API 2030, SECTION 7.3.13 Atmospheric Storage Tanks

If there are wind girders at the
top of the tank, spray nozzles should be placed below each
girder ring.

My question is when the spray nozzles are in operation how will water get above the wind girders?

Best Regards,
boboattah

RE: API 2030

I'm not familiar with the details of the referenced document, so just going off what you quote-
Typically, the top wind girder on an open top tank will be 2.0 to 3.5 feet down from the top of the shell. Typically, the maximum operating level will be a similar distance down on the inside. If the intent of the spray nozzles is to prevent heating of the product, then you wouldn't necessarily need to spray the part of the shell above the top wind girder, as it would seldom if ever have product behind it.

RE: API 2030

That's pretty much it. If you can keep the lower 35-feet cooled off, ignoring the top 5-feet is immaterial.
