Stabbed to Death
Stabbed to Death
(OP)
Nothing to do with engineering so feel free mark for deletion if you think it is not suitable.
In the UK, for some reason, the news readers love using stabbed to death instead of died from a stab wound. It conjures up different images. One is a maniac stabbing people until they die like in the movie psycho and the other is someone just stabbing the victim once.
Just wondering - what phrases do other English speaking countries use to describe stabbings.

Same with shot to death : died from a gunshot wound.

That was what the sheepshank was invented for: it shortened the rope and if the victim didn't die, the executioner pulled the middle of the sheepshank to release an extra n feet of rope to, hoping the extra drop would break the victim's neck, unless they measured it incorrectly and the victim fell on the ground.
RE: Stabbed to Death
If you were convicted of treason, you were hung by the neck, and then cut down while still alive and preferably conscious. Then, you were drawn and quartered.
In that context, the "until dead" part is important.

It is a capital mistake to theorise before one has data. Insensibly one begins to twist facts to suit theories, instead of theories to suit facts. (Sherlock Holmes - A Scandal in Bohemia.)

Not a lot of stabbing goes on in the military these days. Caesar mentions in his account of his wars in Gaul that he had his troops rip off their left sleeves, for identification. A Roman gladius was something like eighteen inches long, and they were goofing up. And we expect drone operators not to.

However, in the heat of battle I can imagine it happening quite often in the melee.
What is Engineering anyway: FAQ1088-1484: In layman terms, what is "engineering"?

I guess it's something the journalists learn at the School of Redundancy and Repetition Institute .
