NX pkg files...............

NX pkg files...............

(OP)
Hi,

What the meaning of "pkg" files, when should they be used and why?

Thanks

RE: NX pkg files...............

Hi,
If you are talking to package file (.pcf), here is the answer:

You can generate a .pcf from your assembly then open it with viewer xpressreview available from siemens (free)

this viewer show the 3D and the drafting

Thanks Didier,
I got a related assignment (create a pkg file) 1 month ago.
It was an assignment for one of our companion's client.
I was suppose to create a new Master Model (Drafting) from an assembly that had about 50 components.
I was told that I had to convert all the components of the assembly into single component, only.
Finally, I've created was I suppose to do, but I have to admit that I wasn't sure why an assembly should be converted into a file with "pkg" (12345678.pkg.0001), with "Body" parts from the conversion of components.
I thought that the reason was privacy............
But I am not sure!
Here's the structure (symbolic)before conversion:
12345678.dwgfmt.0001
*12345678.mlasm.0001
- 1xxxxxxv.mldes.0002
- 5xxxxxxt.mldes.0001
- 7xxxxxxi.mldes.0006
- 9xxxxxxp.mldes.0002
- 1xxxxxxb.mldes.0003
- 4xxxxxxm.mldes.0002
- 6xxxxxxn.mldes.0001
- 3xxxxxxe.mldes.0006
- 1xxxxxxa.mldes.0002

...And the final structure that I was suppose to create:

12345678.dwgfmt.0001
*12345678.pkg.0001

Thanks!

No, NX to NX.

Where is this pkg function in NX ?

Based on the discussion, I'd guess that "pkg" is not a special function or file type; but rather just a designation used within the file name to help identify its contents. Similar to how some companies use "_dwg" in a file name to identify drawings (or "_asm" for assemblies, "_sld" for solids, etc).

Cowski,
You are perfectly right!

Cowski,
Can you elaborate?
Why should "pkg" name be used? In which circumstances?

Thanks

RE: NX pkg files...............

This is all conjecture on my part, but I suspect that you are doing some contract work for a large (possibly automotive) company. Internally, this company uses different designations in the part name to help determine 'at a glance' what the file contains. So, 12345678.mlasm.0001 might be a mold assembly(?); now they want a simplified version to send out to toolmakers. Internally, they would know that 12345678.pkg.0001 is a simplified copy (containing the final geometry, but not the construction geometry) of 12345678.mlasm.0001.

Cowski,
You got to the point, thanks a lot!
