"Export as STEP214 -> Select Objects -> Select All" doesnt give me all the component

"Export as STEP214 -> Select Objects -> Select All" doesnt give me all the component

"Export as STEP214 -> Select Objects -> Select All" doesnt give me all the component

Hey guys,

When I do the above method of exporting as a STEP214 file, it doesn't give me (for example) the 15 components of an assembly, and instead gives me fewer components (mine gave me 2 components) with different names when I view the STEP file in Visualization Mockup. This is a problem because I cannot hide certain parts of the assembly.

But when I use the method of Export as STEP214 -> Entire Part (with solids, surfaces and curves selected) I get ALL of the components with their correct names.

Is there a reason why the two methods give different results?

As for now, I'm just using Entire Part. I'd just like to have the option of using Select Objects and getting correct results.

This has also been a problem for me as well.

@ChuckRi

Alright, so I see I'm not the only one! That's good to know.

I forgot to add that I'm using NX9.
But this has also happened to me before on NX8.

We have to bring a lot of files into Catia from NX (I am the only NX guy here). The "select all" option strips off any naming conventions and out puts it as a generic .STP file. The "entire part" selection out puts it as modeled but doesn't
always translate.

RE: "Export as STEP214 -> Select Objects -> Select All" doesnt give me all the component

Something you may want to look at, If I remember correctly, if there are mixed units, NX won't select them all. Maybe test that theory out and see if it has any impact on the situation

What is the difference between STEP203 and STEP214?

If I recall correctly, STEP214 allows for PMI to be processed as well as geometry.

If you want to maintain the asm structure, you have no choice but to use the Entire Part - also, from the Data To Export tab, select the geometry types as well as Product Data. The reason for this is so that one may translate a single component or the full asm, with or without asm structure maintained. There are times when the receiving end doesn't care about the asm structure, so Selected Objects and Select All will suffice and result in all components being in a single file, without asm structure.
